Description
In very good condition for its age, this box has been appraised to the early 19th Century (late Edo period) and has the most unusual decoration and feel to the lid. The colours are a rich brown and deep red, with gold accents throughout the lid. The image is of a pair of quail birds amongst pine and poppies. The quails are slightly risen above the rest of the décor, and you can feel this if you run your hands over the images. Very unusual design and this gives the box texture and uniqueness. The inside of the box is red, to be expected. Would be lovely for personal items, paperwork etc. Very functional as well as beautiful. In lovely condition, the underside has marks and scratching and there is a small scuff to the lid, but this does not detract and is to be expected.
