French 20ct Gold Snuff Box - Antique c.1870

This is an exceptional, fine and impressive antique French 20 carat tri-coloured gold snuff box; an addition to our 19th century collection. This exceptional antique French 20ct yellow gold snuff box has an oval shaped form. The body of this antique box is embellished with panels of engine turned and tooled decoration, incorporating circular and floral motifs. Each incurved cornered panel is encompassed with applied simplified foliate festoon and column style borders, accented with tri-coloured gold highlights. This impressive antique 20ct gold box is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover ornamented with further bands of foliate designs to the sides and upper portion, segmented with an applied moulded rose gold border. The upper plateau of the cover incorporates an elongated oval panel, reflecting the same tooled and engine turned decoration as that to the body; the underside of the box bears the same design as the cover. This gold box has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton Xl2 Analyzer) and verified as 20 carat gold.
