Description
A quality, finely cast and chased gilt bronze (ormolu) striking mantel clock with exceptionally attractive garniture. The case is in rococo-style with stylised foliage, floral and scroll motifs. Surmounted by an attractive asymmetric matching finial. Matted gilt with burnished highlights accentuating its design. Green backed, pierced blind fret panels to front and sides. Scrolled and foliate integral base. The clock has a white enamelled dial with blue Roman numerals and black minute ring marked with Arabic numerals. Ornate, engraved hands. Hinged, dome glass. Twin-train 8-day movement striking the hours and half-hour on a bell. Backplate stamped with oval enclosing C.CH and “MEDAILLE D’ARGENT VINCENTI & CIE 1855”. The garniture set consists of a pair of three-armed candelabra in symmetrically matching foliate and scroll design and of equal quality in their casting and finish. These make an exceptionally attractive garniture set but also make a very attractive candelabra set displayed on their own. Excellent time-keeper. Watch a video of it striking on our website (https://www.antique-ethos.co.uk/clocks). Fully cleaned and serviced but retaining its antique patina. The clock's movement is covered by our 12-month warranty within the UK. C.CH are likely to have been the case-makers – unfortunately unknown. Jean Vincenti is thought to have been a Corsican who started a factory in Montbeliard, France in 1823. He used machines he had invented to produce “roulants”(movements) for clocks and watches. His business however failed in 1824 and was taken over by Roux who kept the Vincenti name, which by 1855 was Vincenti & Cie. The company had significant success and won several awards at Paris Exhibitions – however production ceased in 1870.
measurements
The clock measures 43 cm height to the top of its finial and its base is 26 cm wide by 19 cm deep (maximum measurements). The garnitures are 31 cm maximum height.
