Description
This is a very charming little Georgian padfoot 'Lowboy'.
It dates to the middle of the 18th Century, and is made of English straight grain oak.
The top has an incised edge moulding to the front and sides, and deep 'dimpled' corners, all very well crafted and typical of the first half of the 18th Century.
The apron to the front is nicely designed with a fretwork scrolled lower edge. The drawers are cock beaded and are of hand cut dovetailed construction, and all retain their original oak linings. The handles are fine quality old brass swan neck replacements. They are correct and contemporary to the period and style of the table - about 1760.
Well turned and tapered straight legs, terminating in small slipper pad feet. These all remain in very good condition without excessive wear or damage.
Note:- The feet are all slightly turned out. This offers balance, presence and stature to the design of the lowboy - a good Georgian feature.
