I specialise in affordable original artworks - mainly traditional watercolours and oil paintings but I also have a range of contemporary artworks including limited edition lithographic prints. I also stock a limited selection of antiques and collectables, including treen, ceramics and glass. I have now opened a shop in Wallingford (OX100BU) between Reading and Oxford, but I also trade online. My website, www.artandstuffgallery.com has a gallery section with several mini-galleries where my items are displayed, including more contemporary items not shown on LoveAntiques.

Description
Gerard Fortin was a French Canadian wood carver/ sculptor from Quebec, who specialised in hand carved folksy items such as lamps and bookends featuring traditional figures. He was active in the 1960s and died in the 1990s.
This example of bookends features an elderly couple sitting in chairs - one feels they are by a fireside. The carvings are very detailed, the faces are very expressive , the floorboards are delineated, there is a rifle on the wall behind the man and pots on a shelf behind the woman. Carved signature to base of female figure. Both figures swivel as required.
