I specialise in affordable original artworks - mainly traditional watercolours and oil paintings but I also have a range of contemporary artworks including limited edition lithographic prints. I also stock a limited selection of antiques and collectables, including treen, ceramics and glass. I have now opened a shop in Wallingford (OX100BU) between Reading and Oxford, but I also trade online. My website, www.artandstuffgallery.com has a gallery section with several mini-galleries where my items are displayed, including more contemporary items not shown on LoveAntiques.

Description
18th century map of Derbyshire from "The New and Correct English Atlas" first published 1787, with original explanations about Derbyshire verso.
John Cary (1754-1835) was a very important English cartographer, who published "The New and Correct English Atlas" in 1787. It was revolutionary in its time. It abandoned the elaborate decoration and mythical animals which adorned earlier maps in favour of a more detailed, accurate and scientific approach. His work became the standard which other cartographers were to follow, including Ordnance Survey. The atlas was very popular and several editions were printed. This example is dated 1793.
