Available from W&W Antiques is a romantic oil painting on canvas from the late 19th Century early 20th Century (c.1880 - 1910) - This is an oil painting  by J.M. Dodds / Jonathan Murray Dodds, 1858 - 1935) after a Scottish, Edinburgh painting by Hugh Cameron (1835-1918), 1873 titled 'A Lonely Life'.  It is in the Dutch romantic and intimate style.  Showing a vernacular rural cottage scene with a woman with basket at the door.  - Jonathan Murray Dodds / J.M. Dodds was a late 19th century, early 20th century artist who painted landscapes and seascapes, mainly in the South East of Scotland.  He was the son of a school master, who was born in 1858 in Prestonpans, East Lothian. After moving around Scotland with his father's job, he settled in Edinburgh and married Robina Hunter, daughter of a lemonade manufacturer, in 1877. In 1881 Dodds was described as a 'Commercial Traveller', which was likely supplying artist's materials. By 1891 the family, including six children, were living on Morningside Road in Edinburgh and Jonathan was described as 'Artist (landscape)' (History, references - Lundin Links & Largo History & Royal Academy of Arts). - Unframed, oil on canvas, canvas stamped on the back - School of Art, A. Dott & Son, Edinburgh.  Are noted as: Carvers and gilders, framemakers, artists’ colourmen, from the 1890s also fine art dealers and picture restorers. - Edinburgh paper label partially missing to frame top.  Small losses, but in good antique condition.  Signed J.M.Dodds to the bottom left. Ready to be hung in your cottage, croft or black house. Free delivery to the UK mainland as priced.
