Impress your clients & guests with this African wild animal statement masterpiece in your office or home wall space. Title “Leopard in Wilderness Masai Mara National Reserve Kenya” C1990’s Follower of Pip McGarry by the artist C Freeman. Subject portrait in front half length profile showing a large green eyed leopard who is in the Savannah wilderness in the Masai Mara National Reserve Kenya. The leopard is looking curiosly downwards. The painted detail is exceptional with the spots and strips and the whiskers & green eyes are totally mesmerizing. A great size with the frame being 72.5 cm wide and 62.5 cm high. Oil on board. Follower of Pip McGarry. Signed by the British artist C Freeman. In our opinion this is very fine example of the animal breed. Set in a recent Larson Juhl gold brown leaf wash spoon profile design Prague pine & spruce wood frame which enhances this artwork even further. Circa late 20th century. Pip McGarry who was born during the mid 20th century in the year 1955, he is significant British Postwar & Contemporary artist. Known especially for his wild big cat paintings. He has travelled to various safaris in Tanzania also Kenya. He has held exhibitions in London & around the United Kingdom. His works have sold at auction houses around the world, the current highest auction sold price was for $58,068 Us Dollars at Christie’s. The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the five extant species in the genus Panthera. It has a pale yellowish to dark golden fur with dark spots grouped in rosettes. Its body is slender and muscular reaching a length of 92–183 cm (36–72 in) with a 66–102 cm (26–40 in) long tail and a shoulder height of 60–70 cm (24–28 in). Males typically weigh 30.9–72 kg (68–159 lb), and females 20.5–43 kg (45–95 lb). The leopard is adapted to a variety of habitats ranging from rainforest to steppe, including arid and montane areas. It is an opportunistic predator, hunting mostly ungulates and primates. It relies on its spotted pattern for camouflage as it stalks and ambushes its prey, which it sometimes drags up a tree. It is a solitary animal outside the mating season and when raising cubs. Females usually give birth to a litter of 2–4 cubs once in 15–24 months. Both male and female leopards typically reach sexual maturity at the age 2–2.5 years. Maasai Mara, also sometimes spelled Masai Mara and locally known simply as The Mara, is a large national game reserve in Narok, Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is named in honour of the Maasai people, the ancestral inhabitants of the area, who migrated to the area from the Nile Basin. Their description of the area when looked at from afar: "Mara" means "spotted" in the local Maasai language, because of the short bushy trees which dot the landscape. Maasai Mara is one of the wildlife conservation and wilderness areas in Africa, with its populations of lion, leopard, cheetah and African bush elephant. It also hosts the Great Migration, which secured it as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, and as one of the ten Wonders of the World. The Greater Mara ecosystem encompasses areas known as the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the Mara Triangle, several Maasai group ranches, and Maasai Mara conservancies.
