Description
This is a charming and unusual pair of late 19th century cast silver menu holders modelled as fairy party hosts, one stood beside, and the other perched on top of a spreading rococo style base with arabesques and frills, each with a central, unengraved cartouche. Each is dressed in a loin cloth tied with a bow and bearing patterned butterfly type wings. One is presenting a roast bird on a platter and the other is popping open a labelled bottle of champagne whilst waving a drumstick aloft, the party clearly in full sway! They have import hallmarks to the front for London 1894, and sponsor initials for David Bridge. To the reverse, each one is stamped 930 as the above sterling silver standard and with a set of makers marks for Hanau, Germany.
measurements
They measure 6cm (2 3/8") high and 7.3cm (2 7/8") wide and they weigh 50g / 1.6ozt.
