Description
This is a pair of framed reverse glass engravings of late 18th Century Cutters at Sea. 'The Baileys Cutter. Capt Sutter. Passing the Eddystone Lighthouse' A copy of this print is in the National Maritime collection: Drawn by T Souter, published 4th April 1795 by Laurie & Whittle 53 Fleet Street London". This print is No. 4 in a series of six prints mostly of exercise vessels, but it is one of the two that do not appear in available records of excise cutters such as Steel's Navy list. Hand-coloured. Technique includes roulette work. Plate 4. 'The Greyhound Excise Cutter. Capt Wm Watson On a wind chasing' This was also from the same series of prints after the Artist T Souter, and was plate 3 of the series of 6 published in 1795
