Description

A rare Meissen porcelain scent bottle modelled as a dog of unknown breed, 6.7 cm (2.6 in) high, early to mid-19th century. It is possibly a spaniel with an unusual forelock, although a wirehaired pointing griffon has also been suggested. We have not been able to find a record of any other example of this model. Maker’s marks: Crossed swords in underglaze blue. Impressed and incised numbers.

Presents very well. The stopper is a good fit. Nearly invisible to the naked eye, there is a small patch of restoration and an associated very tight hairline running vertically from the collar/mount on the dog’s left side (see image).
