Description
A rare John Pennington porcelain pickle dish formed as a leaf with stalk looped handle, c.1780. Standing on 3 conical feet, the shaped dish has moulded veins and coils around the edge, painted in underglaze blue around the edge and with a central oriental scene of a house with fenced garden and some cannonball style rocks in the water in front. This pattern can also be seen on the reverse of some John Pennington sauceboats decorated with the Large Exotic Bird pattern.

condition
condition
Condition is very good: there is a small glaze frit to the rim to the right of the stalk and a shallow chip on the underside of the rim below the tip. No other damage or restoration. There is some crazing and discolouration, more obviously to the reverse and a short glaze level hairline on the underside; this does not come through to the front.
