Description
This is a small size early 18th Century English antique oak bureau. Stepped and welled interior. Excellent clean and original condition.
This is a very handsome early example of an English provincial writing bureau. It is made of oak and dates to around the time of George I, about 1725
Behind the sloped fall there is a carefully designed and nicely proportioned interior. It has a good brown leather writing surface, 4 drawers and pigeon holes, and a well with a sliding cover.
The Bureau stands on its original bracket feet and has 2 full and 2 half width drawers, with cock beaded edges and 18th C brass swan neck handles
The sides of the bureau are waisted, with deeper planked lower sections. All completely original.
Restoration work is historic, very well done and sympathetic to the piece. The handles are likely to be very old replacements. The hinges to the fall are original, but have been repositioned and made good with the original oak patches. The linings of the upper drawers are oak and original, the lower two drawer linings are very old pine replacements
