Description
Watercolour on paper entitled "On the Banks of the Ouse" (see verso) featuring a lone fisherman in tranquil surroundings, by Tom Whitehead (1886-1959).
Whitehead is a listed artist who was a portrait and landscape painter, an etcher and dry point artist. He was born in Yorkshire, studied at Halifax School of Art and Royal College of Art, exhibiting between 1929-1938 at Royal Academy once and Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) several times. Many of his works are in the National Collection.
This piece is unsigned but is attributed to Whitehead verso by Mawson Swan and Morgan of Newcastle.
