Description
This is an attractive late 19th Century English Victorian antique silver pot pourri box with pierced hinged cover and cast decoration depicting a rococo style scene of a gentleman and his lady companion dancing, each with an arm raised as about to come together and she with a fan in her other hand. A shaped edge, the scene is framed with scrolls, and baskets of fruit and flowers are arranged between them. This romantic scene is all wrapped up with a large ribbon tied into a bow above their heads. The box itself has a shaped front and has an embossed frieze of scrolls, cornucopias of fruit and bows running all around. Hallmarked to both cover and base for London 1898, maker Samuel Jacob. The inside of the cover is also stamped with the registered design number Rd 335975.
