Description
This beautifully shaped antique late Victorian sterling silver photo frame is hallmarked Birmingham 1901 and is a product of the acclaimed silversmiths Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings Shepherd (Saunders and Shepherd).
The quality of this maker is epitomised not only in the unusual shape, but also by the bevel edged glass used and the lovely silver-work.
Alas like most 120 year old silver frames is does have a small loss at bottom left (see photo's) and several small holes elsewhere, bearing witness to a loving owner who was perhaps a little zealous in polishing a treasured item. We have refinished the frame in a dusky pink velvet to the front, a complimentary darker fabric to the photo plate and a grey grained nappa leather to the rear and backstand, giving a contemporary twist to a Victorian gem.
Similar to almost all of our frames, this is a living antique that should last another 100 plus years. We have taken care to ensure that original fittings have been used wherever possible and as a consequence sometimes they may show signs of prior use.
