Description
This is a lovingly preserved antique rocking horse from the Baby Carriages 'stable'.
Baby Carriages Ltd were formed in 1906 from the old firm of Hill & Harrison (1884 - 1906). They had a factory in Liverpool and used the trade name 'Rambler' for several of their models.
This little rocker is a beautiful early example, probably about 1910.
Carefully shaped and carved, he has a well defined profile and has his head held high and tucked in. He also retains his original dappled paint pattern. Both of these features are trademark characteristics of the Baby Carriage brand.
A worn Bcl* Rambler manufacturers stamp remains on the stand - in the centre of the bottom rail
* Bcl : Baby Carriages Liverpool
Some restoration has been necessary, but this has been careful and conservative with a light and gentle touch to preserve every little bit of his original character.
The saddle has been renovated and replacement stirrups added, as well as a carefully matched horse hair mane and tail to compliment his dappled colouring.
We have another larger Rocking Horse for sale too on our website.
