Wedgewood Fairyland Lustre Bowl ‘Celestial Dragon’

A Wedgwood dragon lustre bowl, octagonal form designed by Daisy Makeig Jones, pattern z4829. Dated 1920's. This splendid bowl is decorated with the Celestial Dragon in gilt on a mixed blue lustre background. The pattern number and Wedgewood stamp are on the base. This is the most highly prized of Wedgewoods wares and keenly sought after. Fairyland lustre ware was the name given to a range of ornamental lustre wares designed by Makeig-Jones from 1915 until her retirement in 1931. 10.9 cm diameter of base 10.4 height 20.7cm upper diameter Condition: Excellent condition - the colours and gilding have been wonderfully preserved almost as new. There is a very small mark to one outside panel which could be since firing (can be seen by very close examination of photos but is so small mentioned only for accuracy). It's hard to do justice to the beauty of this bowl, the light plays across the lustre surface swirling with iridescence. Please make a careful study of all photos.
