Description
A fine first period Worcester porcelain ribbed / fluted tea bowl and saucer painted in the oriental inspired "Dragon In Compartments" pattern (also known as the "Kylin" or "Bengal Tiger" pattern), depicting, as you may expect, a dragon and a kylin in opposing panels, separated by panels showing precious objects and vases on stands. All painted in bright enamels in orange-red, pale green, puce, yellow and violet blue with gilt accents and gilt rims. Unmarked, c.1770.
measurements
The saucer measures 13.7cm (5 3/8") and 2.8cm (1 1/8") high and the tea bowl is 8cm (3 1/8") wide and 4.7cm (1 7/8") high.
declaration
The Fancy Fox has clarified that the Worcester Porcelain Dragon in Compartments Fluted Tea Bowl & Saucer c.1770 (LA482148) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1770
condition
In excellent condition with no damage, repair or restoration and very minor handling wear, a tiny amount of rubbing to the gilt on the tea bowl rim at the highest points and some minor rubbing to the enamelling to the centre of the saucer, again just to some of the higher points of the fluting.
