World War II Silver Churchill Election Spoons & Accompanying Docs

A fascinating cased set of Churchill spoons hallmarked in 1941 and subsequently sent to Major F.O. Chambers in 1943 by the then Managing Director (Benno Sippel) of the maker B&J Sippel Ltd. The accompanying letter and a researched piece on the Sippels', also provides an intriguing insight into the rise of a German immigrant family who came to London in 1931. In combination; the research, the spoons and the letter, offer the opportunity for the new owner to explore the potential links between the recipient [Major Chambers] and the then Minister of Defence Winston Churchill. The spoons themselves are a delight, in 'as made condition and complete with the original individual tissue wrappers and probably never used. The typewritten letter from Benno Sippel is also interesting reading "It is a red letter day and also an honour for us to have our works visited by your Major Chambers, and it is a privilege for the management on this special occasion to present to you a Spoon (sic) bearing the Effigy (sic) of our Skipper, the Hon. Winston Churchill. We all have to be very grateful to God for blessing us with such a Leader who is bringing us safely through the darkness into the light; we are marching on the Victory road with him in the front of us. No doubt you will treasure this souvenir and hand it down in your family as an historic heirloom. With good luck and may God bring you safely home to your dear loved ones after the battle is won, and let us hope that it will not be long before our aim is achieved - Victory (in red ink).
