Description
Chippendale style, clerks desk, dating from the second half of the 19th Century. Constructed in solid mahogany, with gallery around the sides and back of the top, writing slope with stop that lifts up to reveal an internal compartment, with pigeon holes and three side by side drawers, all with brass pull handles. The writing slope locks by way of the original Nettlefolds lock, with working key. The top and base separate and can be carried by way of the original brass carry handles on either side. The base has four square chamfered legs, on original castors. Inside of the knee arches are pierced fretwork spandrels. This very attractive clerks is full of originality, in excellent condition and ready for use.

This clerks desk measures approximately 98.5cm (38.75") tall to the top of the gallery, is 71.5cm (28.125") wide, 63cm (24.75") deep, 78.5cm (31") tall to the front of the writing slope, and the kneehole clearance is 62.5cm (24.5").

condition
Please see the pictures for details of the items condition. - This clerks desk is in very good condition, commensurate with its age, and is structurally very sound and sturdy. All original, with the exception of a couple of the handles in the inner drawers, which have been replaced with very similar examples. Old age and use related marks and blemishes, and a couple of fills from natural aged splits on the top, now all very well polished in. Very good overall colour, lovely patina, with good wax polish. No obvious signs or damage or repair. Sensitively cleaned and waxed polished. Ready for use. - As with all vintage & antique furniture there will be signs of use, marks, wear & tear, etc.
