Description
18th Century (c.1770) striking Worcester porcelain lobed dessert plate/dish with an apple green enamel ground around the rim and shaped edges to form the central reserve. The main scene is of two large Sevres style "fancy" birds painted in bright coloured enamels, one standing, the other in a rather puzzling pose, set in front of a tree on a green grassed area with a river just behind and a distant landscape of trees, shrubs and hills. A smaller bird sits in the tree branches and there are some small scatterings of tiny birds in flight above. The bottom of the grassed area is ornamented with an arrangement of stones and swagged garland of flowering vines. Around the edge of the green ground are further fancy birds in flight and a couple of butterflies for variety and the edge is ornately framed in gilt scrolls and it is finished with a gilded rim.
