First Period Worcester Porcelain K'ang Hsi Lotus Basket c.1770

A very fine Worcester porcelain basket painted with the highly ornate and uncommon K'ang Hsi Lotus (sometimes called the Kangxi Lotus) pattern. Oval form with hand pierced walls and rope twist handles. The outer walls and handles are block coloured with an underglaze blue ground reserving applied white daisy flowers applied to the intersections, and an arrangement of flowers, buds and leaves decorating the handle terminals. It has a painted backstamp which is specific to this pattern. c.1770-1775. Reference: Branyan, French & Sandon, I.F.3
