Description
We have for sale a rather stunning and highly decorative arts and crafts decorative copper and pewter plate/shallow bowl by the excellent copper smith Hugh Wallis of Altrincham, Cheshire.
This lovely heavy copper circular plate/shallow bowl consists of a lightly planished bowl extending to a beautifully crafted rim simply decorated with a diamond design filled with pewter surrounded by a narrow border decorated with a simple geometric repeat design of three dots interspaced by two back slashes. The planishing of this piece gives the surface of the an almost fluidic appearance so that its luminosity varies with the light and viewing angle. This piece carries the impressed Hugh Wallis mark H over W in a square to the inside of the bowl. The bowl probably dates to somewhere around 1910 to around 1920
The plate is 11.25 inches (28.5cm)in diameter, 0.9 inches (2.3cm) high and is in a very good antique condition.
