Description
A stunning large Worcester porcelain dessert serving dish with lobed walls and shaped rim with an osier moulded border. Painted in the centre an extravagant scene centred on four Sevres style "fancy birds" coloured in puce, sky blue, orange and lemon yellow / lime green enamels. One is perched in a tree and the other three stand in a very finely painted stylised green land with a city landscape in the distance of buildings and a cathedral, greyed out trees and flocks of birds up in the sky. The lower edge of this fantasy scene is decorated with hanging flowering garlands and the lower walls are dotted with butterflies and more fancy birds in flight. Finished with a gilt dentil rim. Unmarked, c.1770-1775.

condition
condition
In excellent condition: a small glaze loss to the rim has been touched in with gilt. No other damage, repair or restoration. Very minor handling wear in the main but a couple of tiny losses to the puce enamel on the birds which has been applied quite thickly in places and as a result has been prone to slight flaking.
