Description
Fine British work of art marine oil painting of Merchant Navy Alca Passenger Cargo Liner Ship Arriving into Liverpool.
Add nautical grandeur to impress your clients or guests in your office on your home wall space with this fascinating artwork.
Subject side profile view magnificent maritime perspective shoreline seascape view of the known British passenger cargo liner ship Alca and ferry Claughton on the Mersey.
Title "Rain Clouds Of Liverpool. Yoeward Bro Ship Alca in background 1927-1955 Ferry Boat Claughton in foreground" by the known marine artist John Cromby.
In the foreground your focus is first drawn to the passenger ferry Claughton that is teaming along in front facing right on relative choppy waters of the River Mersey, further back is the impressive view of the passenger cargo ship Alca in side profile facing left with its single funnel showing iconic Letter Y with black smoke coming out. The ship has 3 tall masts. The name of the ship is shown along the bow, along with ensign flags hoisted. Further back are the iconic Royal Liver building and close by the Liverpool parish church, Our Lady and Saint Nicolas. The Pier head and the port of Liverpool buildings , you can see the green domed top further back along on the right side. There are also some birds seagulls flying cross the water. Above with mainly dark overcast rain clouds sky which rather enhances the atmosphere within this painting.
John Cromby was a 20th century Liverpool-based British marine artist, renowned for his paintings of Liverpool docks.
in our opinion this is one of his very finest examples of his works.
Medium oil on board. Signed by the known marine Merseyside artist John Cromby. Set in a traditional original frame, with hanging thread on the back ready for immediate home wall display.
