Description
This a lovely no-frills, sturdy oak cased barograph, typical of late 1940s post war austerity. Manufactured by Short & Mason Ltd. London, serial No. K14351, all engraved on the attractive and well-preserved lacquered brass base.
The reliable weekly clock is typical of the style specified by the British Met Office. The pen arm uses the gate suspension introduced in the late 1930s as is the concertina style of aneroid diaphragm. The movement really is in excellent working condition and the oak case is typically English of the period (and no, it's never kept outside!).
A quantity of weekly charts is included together with
a fresh bottle of special blue recording ink and a reprinted
1930s pamphlet by Negretti & Zambra describing operating
instructions and how to interpret typical chart recordings.
