Vincent Balfour-Browne (British, 1880-1963), Pheasant and Wood Pigeons in a Woodland Landscape, Watercolour. Signed V.B.B & Dated: 1910. Provenance: Wykey House, Georgian country house Shrewsbury. A most superb watercolour of a winters' woodland scene by renowned watercolour artist Vincent Balfour-Browne. The painting depicts various woodland creatures including a Pheasant, Wood Pigeons and a red squirrel. A fairly early work by the artist which demonstartes his proficiency at painting the natural forna and forna in which he emersed himself. Biography:- Vincent Balfour-Browne was born in London and studied at Oxford before locating to Dumfriesshire. As a keen deer stalker he was drawn to the Scottish Highlands and excelled in producing highly evocative works that give a strong sense of the natural environment and the native birds and animals within it. The artists is considered to be one of the finest Scottish sporting and wildlife artists of any period. Exhibitions of his work were held annually during his lifetime in London.
