Bohemian Glass (or Bohemian Crystal as it is commonly known as) does not relate to a single maker but a group of makers based around the Czech region of Bohemia and Silesia. Glass production has been going on in the region for over 1000 years and it was the addition of local Potash which would give the glass its unique look. Popularity grew during the 16th Century and by the 19th Century Bohemian Glass was being exported in large quantities around the world.
Although it can encompass many styles and techniques, most people associate antique Bohemian glass with coloured overlay pieces which are then cut back and engraved often with outdoor scenes or famous buildings.
