First Period Worcester Porcelain Blue Scale Jabberwocky Tea Canister c.1770

Fine Worcester porcelain tea canister with a blue scale ground with shaped reserves busily painted in a kakiemon palette with a loose Japanese type pattern of a jabberwocky type creature and phoenix amongst a landscape on one side and a phoenix alone on the other. Smaller reserves filled with flowering branches. Gilt ornamentation edging the reserves and detailing the neck and foot. Blue fretted square mark, c.1770.
