Established in 2010, we are dealers in good quality antique furniture, silver, metalware, fine porcelain, artwork and glassware ranging from the 18th century to the early 20th century. We have a particular interest in the Arts and Crafts movement, and much of our stock dates to this era. We’ve published several books on antiques, which are available via Amazon.
We have a large dealers unit at Carlton Fine Arts and Antiques Centre in Salts Mill, Saltaire, West Yorkshire, and we stand at fine arts and antiques fairs in Yorkshire and Lancashire.
We have for sale a lovely example of a Nantgarw porcelain dinner plate from one of the 33 or so named Nantgarw services, namely the dinner service owned by Lady Seaton of Bosahan, Cornwall.
There is something very elegant about examples of fine Nantgarw porceail with minimal decoration. Such pieces really show off the beauty of the porcelain body, something that William Billingsley sacrificed much to produce. This Nantgarw moulded dinner plate being minimally decorated with a discretely gilded rim surrounding 3 large and 4 small sprays of flowers painted in blue fits that description. The moulding of the porcelain is crisp and exquisite forming the perfect background for the fine blue London decoration. The base of the plate is marked with the impressed Nantgarw C. W Mark. A similar plate is illustrated in "Swansea and Nantgarw Porcelains, A Scientific Reappraisal" by Howell G M Edwards Page 143, Isbn: 9783319487120 and also in "Nantgarw Porcelain: The Pursuit of Perfection" by Howell G M Edwards Edited by Morgan Denyer, page 29, 2017, Isbn: 9780244906542.
The plate is 10 inches (25.4cm) in diameter and is in a very good to excellent condition with negligible wear to the gilded rim, however there is some stacking wear to the decoration, see photograph 1 at the 10 o'clock position and there is also a s small chip to the inside of the foot rim at the 7 o'clock position, see photograph 4.
