Description
My ideal home on a beach to while away the days in contemplation...Christian Aigens captured this moment in time perfectly.
Step back in time, to a life that was so much simpler and admire this young boy deep in concentration while repairing his fishing net. In the distance, through the window, you see this wonderful seascape of rolling waves and beach fauna in the forefront.
Beautifully captured by Christian Aigens who lived between 21st July 1870 & 15th March 1940, a Danish painter who spent a lot of time in Copenhagen, Denmark & mainly painted portraits. He was taught by Peder Severin Krøyer and Laurits Tuxe, before going on to the Art Academy from 1888-1890. He tended to favor this style painting when you compare this to his other work. I think he captures the atmosphere of the room perfectly with dimly lit rooms and a backdrop of a home.
There are two Christian Aigens portraits held in the Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg, Denmark. One of Chr. Engelstoft and Professor Harald Høffding, so to me this says everything.
Love the muted tones and colours as they seem to embrace the period of time nicely. A charming and innocent portrait of some taking pride in a valuable fishing net.
The frame is old, may not be the original, but is complimentary.
