Large British Victorian 19th Century (c.1890) oil painting on canvas portrait of Rachel Weigall with her prized Kitten by Henry Weigall.

Subject portrait of the known artists daughter Rachel Weigall in three quarter length front profile view, she is standing near the edge of the forest holding in both hands her beloved prized black kitten, who is licking her finger, Rachel is around 10 years of age wearing her traditional clothing, she has blue eyes and dark blonde hair, with rosy cheeks. she is looking towards the viewer, she has a black locket around her neck with the initial M. Lower down on either side are pretty purple & white flowers.
Initial signed in the bottom lower corner 'hw' by the known British artist Henry Weigall.
Set in the original gilt wood frame which enhances this painting further, with hanging thread on the back ready for immediate home display.
Henry Weigall a known Victorian era British artist who specialised in portraits, he was born in 1829 in Kensington London. His father was Henry Weigall Senior, his mother Selina (Smith) Weigall. He lived with his parents at there home address in Marylebone London in the year 1851. His siblings Selina Frances (Weigall) James,Theyre Weigall also Alfred Weigall. He married Lady Rosa Sophia Mary (Fane) Weigall who became his wife on the 15th August 1866 in the known Westminster Abbey in London. Lady Rosa was the daughter of John the 11th Earl of Westmoreland & Priscilla Anne Wellesley-Pole. He had 2 children who where Rachel Weigall & William Ernest George Archibald Weigall Pm 1st Bt. He died in Thanet Kent in 1925.
Henry Weigall's works have been exhibited and sold at auction houses & museums around the world like Christie’s, Hereford Museum & Art Gallery, Keble College, University of Oxford, Hertford Magistrate’s Court, Christ Church, University of Oxford, Sandwich Guildhall, National Portrait Gallery London, National Trust Hanbury Hall, National Trust Stourhead, National Trust, Lanhydrock, Ramsgate Library, Cusworth Hall Museum & Park, Ridley Hall Theological College, Cambridge which was for the Painting of the Hon George Fitzroy Somerset who would later become 3rd Baron Raglan which sold at Christie’s. The artist died in 1925.

Offered in fine used condition. The front painting surface is in good overall order with various foxing staining & craquelure in areas commensurate with usage & old age. Canvas has not been relined, signs of a repair paint retouching to Rachels skirt just below the cat. The original frame has had some repairs and paint touch ups in areas, having various signs of wear, scuffs, cracking scratches, stains, dust, losses in places commensurate with usage and old age.
